People of the historical city, Masuleh, hold a religious ceremony for Imam #Hussain - the third Imam of Shi'a - called "Alam Bandan" in #Muharram the 6th. Though living in other cities, people who are originally from Masuleh, gather there to join the ceremony.
The most significant part of this #ceremony is held in the main mosque of the city, called O-ne-ben-ne Ali. In the ceremony, which dates back to 800 years ago, the people of four different local communities of the city, move toward the main mosque as they mourn for Imam Hussain, and after gathering in the yard of the #mosque, they ask the "Mir-e Alam Daar" - the Banner Man - to give each local community the specific "ensign" - the Banner- of their own.
Mostly men take part in this ceremony and #women just watch from rooftops.
Then people of each community return to their own neighborhood with their #ensign and keep on mourning.
In the way back, people pay tribute to the ensign of Imam Hussein #Imam Hussain.
Each year, many tourists from all over country join the ceremony in #Masuleh.
